IGRAC and Internationally Shared Aquifers

This page summarises the main IGRAC activities related to internationally shared groundwaters (download a flyer). These activities will be addressed in more words at the ISARM (International Shared Aquifer Resource Management) portal.

 

  • IGRAC is a member of the ISARM core group and participates in development of a new strategic plan.
  • Further, we facilitate and maintain the ISARM Portal (www.isarm.net)  
  • We assist the UN ILC in development of an international law on groundwater 
  • We developed a map showing the Transboundary Aquifers of the world, as known in 2009.
  • Together with several other UNESCO partners, IGRAC is developing ISARM transboundary aquifers Course Material.
  • In the last three years we carried out a GEF IW-LEARN project on Lessons Learned from the GEF transboundary aquifer projects   
  • IGRAC contributes to all ISARM Regional Activities in the Americas, Africa, Europe and  Asia. For example, together with OAS (Organisation of American States) and UNESCO, IGRAC has developed an Atlas of Transboundary Aquifers of Americas.
